ITS Midwest holds Annual Meeting
Approves merger with ITS Mid-America
ITS Midwest held its 2007 Annual Meeting on March 21-22, 2007 in suburban Chicago at the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort, Lincolnshire, Illinois. The meeting, which had the theme “Growing Partnerships & Connecting with our Customers”, provided the audience of ITS professionals and decision makers with informative speakers, a plenary panel, and a wealth of technical sessions and exhibits. A "Get Acquainted" networking reception took place the evening of March 21. Attendees were also treated to a PACE Intelligent Bus System demonstration and a tour of the Lake County Passage Traffic Management Center.
During the business meeting, the ITS Midwest membership approved the proposed merger with ITS Mid-America and an amendment to the Bylaws for the new organization. This now requires approval by the membership of ITS Mid-America. The new organization would be called ITS Midwest and encompass the states of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. Other changes proposed in the amended Bylaws include moving the annual meeting to the fall (between September 15 and November 15), and increasing the Board from 7 to 8 directors, and the officers from 6 to 8, to increase representation so the states have 2 directors and 1 vice president each. Although ITS Midwest held an election during its business meeting to staff its interim needs, a new election will be held within 60 days of merger approval by ITS Mid-America to establish the slate of officers and directors that will serve the newly merged organization.
Gary Rylander's ITS Midwest presidency came to an end as incoming president John Benda took the podium to make closing remarks. ITS Midwest extends its heartfelt thanks to Gary Rylander for his leadership and commitment to the organization during the past two years.
