Our Mission
The Intelligent Transportation Society of the Midwest (ITS Midwest) is committed to leading, supporting, and promoting programs that provide for safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation across modes throughout Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.
ITS Midwest is affiliated as a state chapter of ITS America.
We provide these services through outreach, education, and networking across our diverse membership. As a volunteer organization we work within an open structure to ensure all members are encouraged to participate in our programs and ensure the organization is directly serving the members.

As a nonprofit organization, our role is to serve our members and society championing for the advancement and support of Intelligent Transportation Systems. As an ITS America chapter, ITS Midwest plays a key role of outreach, education, and support for ITS technical and planning activities.
ITS Midwest is made up of a very diverse membership with an interest in ITS development and deployment.

Our Organization
Leading the Chapter
Our Executive Board and Committee members include professionals from state and city departments of transportation, regional and local transportation and planning agencies, private companies providing ITS products and services, auto manufacturers and suppliers, research organizations, academic institutions and industry associations.
ITS Midwest Bylaws Amendment
The Bylaws establish the basis for our operations and management. The most recent ITS Midwest Bylaws were adopted on September 25, 2025.
What we do
Through its corporate and individual members, ITS Midwest fosters the research and deployment of intelligent transportation technologies, promoting sustainable transportation, and saving lives in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and beyond. ITS Midwest plays a key role of outreach, education, and support for ITS technical and planning activities through:
- Committees, open to participation to all current members
- Renowned networking events, such as our Annual Meeting
- Educational opportunities via our Webinars Series by subject matter experts on a variety of cutting-edge topics
- Digital education resources showcasing both public and industry entities
- Direct coordination and networking with ITS America

Our History
Grounded in ITS Expertise from the Beginning
The Intelligence Transportation Society of the Midwest began when leading ITS professionals and dedicated leaders in the industry came together with a shared vision for smart mobility accessible to everyone. Founded in 1994 and formally chartered and organized in 1995, ITS Midwest is one of the oldest chapters of ITS America (ITSA) and represents Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. Today our members impact the future of transportation across our region and beyond.
